Liverpool’s manager tried to defend his outclassed opponents, who must somehow rouse themselves for trip to Arsenal

It is a familiar post-match scene. The manager sits up on a little stage, the press down in front of him, and attempts to explain it all away, to make his excuses. And so there we were at Anfield on Tuesday night, in the aftermath of Manchester United’s 4-0 hiding by Liverpool, a result that raised many questions, including whether it had been more or less humiliating for the visitors than the previous instalment. That was last October, when Liverpool won 5-0 at Old Trafford.

How had it happened again? The club is “obviously in a difficult situation”, came the response, a line that touched on United’s myriad problems, taking in thfan fury towards the ownership and even some of the players, the lack of joined-up thinking, the dismal form, a selection crisis.

The supporters made the gesture in the seventh minute of Tuesday's Premier League match between the sides at Anfield, with Reds fans singing "You'll Never Walk Alone".

Cristiano Ronaldo has reached another major milestone.

The 37-year-old Portuguese soccer star earned the 50th hat trick of his club career on Saturday as he led Manchester United to a 3-2 victory over last-placed Norwich City at Old Trafford.

Ronaldo sealed the hat trick on a free kick, his first of the kind in over 18 months, according to Sports Illustrated.

The Manchester United forward celebrated his big accomplishment and the all-important win on Instagram, noting that he is "very happy with this win" and glad that his team is "back on track in the [English] Premier League."

"Like I said before, individual achievements are only worth it when they help us reach our goals as a team," Ronaldo wrote in the caption of his post. "The 60th hat-trick in my career is so much more important because it brought us the 3 points."

IPL 2022 Match Today

 IPL 2022 Match Today

                                Sunrisers  Hyderabad           V                   Gujarat   Titans

Starts 11 Apr 2022, 07:30 PM IST  - Match 21 ,Dr DY Patil Sports Academy Mumbai,

Right. The Sunrisers Hyderabad are finally off the mark and it took a game against the lacklustre Chennai Super Kings for them to achieve that feat. Prior to the match, SRH had only won four times in 16 attempts against the defending champions. But like many things this season, there is something different about it, meaning that this victory, which might have been treated an anomaly in past campaigns, might just be enough to supercharge their season.

Against CSK, Abhishek Sharma finally rose to the occasion for SRH. At the auction, there were plenty of eyebrows raised when SRH broke the bank to acquire a youngster who had never made fifty in the IPL. With a 75-run knock under his belt, though, there is increased optimism that he can deliver on the promise he has shown over the years.

Kane Williamson has looked visibly rusty but having spent time out in the middle, he might be confident of turning things around. Rahul Tripathi, as always, has flown under the radar but has done whatever the team has asked of him. There remains a slight cloud over Aiden Markram and Nicholas Pooran’s consistency but if SRH’s top order keep firing, they could have the platform to take the game away from the opposition.

Bowling wise, things are starting to fall in place too, although that perception could be skewed because of CSK’s woeful display. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been tidy. T Natarajan has bowled well in different phases and Washington Sundar has gotten crucial breakthroughs. Umran Malik, though, has leaked runs and that is something that the Gujarat Titans could target.

Speaking of the Titans, they come into the game as the only unbeaten side in the competition. They have found themselves in tricky situations this season. But they have also found Rahul Tewatia in those moments. Hardik Pandya’s captaincy has been excellent and he has bowled with fire too. Lockie Ferguson and Mohammed Shami have been superb and have ensured that the Titans have lived up to their billing. Oh, and Rashid Khan has weaved his magic on an IPL season again.

On the batting front, Shubman Gill has clicked into a new gear altogether. He has batted with grace and has batted at an extremely high tempo. Hardik hasn’t looked too bad either and while a substantial score has deserted him so far, it feels it might not be very far away.

Thus, as things stand, the Gujarat Titans are firm favourites in this contest. Both of their suits are working well and they have been able to pull victories out of the fire too. For SRH, there still remain a few rough edges that need to be smoothened out, although it can be argued that they’ve taken a massive step in that direction post their victory against CSK.

If that will be enough against an all-conquering Titans side is another matter altogether. But it does give them hope, which considering the opening week of their campaign, is a significant upgrade in itself. And, another victory here will surely lend weight to that notion!

Orange Cap / Most   Runs
The Orange Cap is the award for the top run-getter in the Indian Premier League (IPL), an award that is
juggled around from one batsman to another as the group stage of the IPL progresses along. It finally is
awarded to the batsman with most runs at the end of the tournament. Australian batsman Shaun Marsh
won the award in the inaugural edition of the league, and was followed by compatriot Matthew Hayden
in 2009 edition. Indian batting icon Sachin Tendulkar won the award in 2010, a season in which he led
the Mumbai Indians from the front while stamping his class on the shortest format. India skipper Virat
Kohli had bagged the award after an incredible run with the bat in 2016. David Warner (2015, 2017 and
2019) has donned the Orange cap most times in the IPL, followed by Chris Gayle (2011 and 2012). Kane
Williamson had won the prestigious award in the 2018 season, enjoying a consistent run with the bat while
handling captaincy duties for the Sunrisers. After Warner in 2019, KL Rahul of Kings XIP Punjab (now
Punjab Kings) won it for the first time in 2020, scoring 670 runs from 14 matches. Who walks away with
the IPL 2021 orange cap is a matter of conjecture. With world class batsmen in action along with some exciting
youngsters and talented first-timers, the competition for the Orange Cap may well go down the wire in IPL 2021.
